SOC’s Delegation to Brussels Meet Turkish Foreign Ministry Officials
The delegation of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) to Brussels, headed by President Salem Al-Maslat, met with a delegation from the Turkish Foreign Ministry headed by the Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister, Sedat Onal, on the sidelines of the sixth annual donors conference on Syria.
The SOC’s delegation comprised Vice President for Foreign Affairs Abdulahad Astepho, Vice President Ruba Habboush, members of the political committee Yahya Maktabi and Abdullah Kaddo, and Executive Director of the Assistance Coordination Unit Muhammad Hasno.
The two sides discussed the latest field and political developments, the humanitarian situation in the liberated areas, and the situation of Syrian refugees in Turkey.
They also talked about the political process and the Assad regime’s continued obstructionism due to the lack of real international pressure on it and on its backers.
The SOC’s delegation reaffirmed its commitment to a political solution in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions, especially the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Resolutions 2118 and 2254.
It also stressed the importance of ensuring accountability for the Assad regime for its crimes against civilians, calling for capitalizing on the reactions that accompanied the disclosure of the Tadamon Massacre.
The SOC’s delegation also stressed that Syria is not and will not be safe as long as the Assad regime and its security services are there, pointing out that the return of refugees must be voluntary, safe and dignified.
The two sides discussed the situation in the liberated areas, the need to improve the living conditions, and improve basic services. The SOC’s delegation pointed to the urgent need to support education, health and agricultural projects in the liberated areas.
