Al-Meslet stressed the need to advance the political process through serious, concrete steps and a clear timetable, and to open all tracks of Resolution 2254 in order to reach a real political solution that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people for freedom, dignity and democracy.

Al-Meslet called for serious, concrete international action to release detainees, disclose the fate of the forcibly disappeared, and put an end to the suffering they are being subjected to in Assad’s prisons.

Moreover, he pointed out that the so-called amnesty that the Assad regime has recently issued is nothing but a new lie to cover up its crimes, the latest of which was Al-Tadamon Massacre. He pointed out that the number of the released does not exceed tens out of tens of thousands of detainees.

Al-Meslet stressed the need to hold the Assad regime accountable for its massacres against the Syrian people, stressing that there will be no peace in Syria and the region as long as the Assad regime survives in power.

Al-Meslet also stressed the importance of sustained delivery of cross-border humanitarian aid to those in need which represents a lifeline for millions of people, including children and women, especially the aid related to health, food security and education.
